Second sketch of the year

No dia a seguir ao primeiro, fiz o segundo desenho do ano no sketchbook. Desta vez estava na sala de reuniões e aproveitei um momento em que se discutiam assuntos não directamente relacionados com o meu trabalho. À esquerda, em baixo, colei o cartão do restaurante onde jantei nessa noite, e de que gostei bastante - como normalmente acontece, sempre que como nesta cidade. Apesar de tristonha no exterior (principalmente por causa do clima e dos edifícios escuros), Bruxelas tem interiores surpreendentemente apelativos e cada loja, cada restaurante, consegue ser único, original e acolhedor.

The day after the first one, I did the second sketch of the year. This time I was in the meeting room and I took profit of a moment when some issues were being discussed that didn't concern my work directly. On the left I glued a card from the restaurant where I had dinner that night. I liked it a lot, as often happens when it comes to eating in this city. Although it is a bit dull on the outside (mostly due to the weather and the dark coloured buildings), Brussels has amazing interiors and each shop, each restaurant is really unique, original and inviting.

Finally drawing again...

Já lá ia algum tempo desde o último desenho, e a principal razão é que não tenho feito um único risco... Tenho andado ou demasiadamente ocupada, ou então, quando tenho tempo, não me apetece desenhar. Já aprendi a não dar demasiada importância a estas "brancas". Acontece o mesmo com outras coisas de que gosto muito, como, por exemplo, ler. Mais tarde ou mais cedo, as coisas voltam ao normal. Tudo isto para dizer que aqui está, finalmente, o primeiro desenho do ano. Não é nada de especial, mas é o primeiro, e só por isso, estou contente. Mostra um dos muitos edifícios da Comissão Europeia, em Bruxelas. Uma ou duas vezes por ano, eu vou a este, onde a DG Ambiente tem os seus gabinetes. Desta vez, cheguei cedo para a reunião. Confesso que ponderei seriamente entre o desenho e um capucino, mas áquela hora, não havia um único café aberto à vista e para além disso - milagre dos milagres - não estava a chover! Por isso fiz um apontamento rápido do edifício, com um pouco do jardim envolvente. Foi pena não ter levado as aguarelas - o edifício é quase todo feito de vidro, e muito bonito, o que não fica muito evidente no meu desenho a caneta.

It's been a while, and the main reason is that I haven't been drawing a line... I've been either too busy, or, when I'm not, I just don't feel like doing it. I've learned not to give this too much thought or worry. It happens the same with other things I love doing, like reading, and after a while, the urge to do it somehow comes back as strong as before. All this to say that here's my first drawing of the year. It isn't much of a drawing, but it's the first, and I'm happy with it. It shows one of the many European Commission's buildings in Brussels. I go to this one, where DG Environment has it's headquarters, once or twice a year for meetings. This time I arrived early. I confess I seriously pondered between a warm cappuccino and the drawing, but there wasn't an open cafeteria in sight and - oh miracle - it was not raining. So I just did a quick sketch of the building, with a bit of the surrounding garden. Pity I didn't bring my watercolours, for the building is mostly glass and quite beautiful and this is not obvious from my pen sketch.

Ano novo, projecto velho. Finalmente, as etiquetas do BookCrossing com as minhas ilustrações estão prontas para impressão. Agora, só temos que escolher entre estas duas versões. O que é que acham?
