Growing pumpkins / Abóboras a crescer

Summer means, among other things, fresh vegetables from the garden. Today, thanks to the storm of the previous day that watered the garden for me, I used the spare time to sketch. Picking a motif was not easy: should I draw the tomato plants with the tiny fruits, still green, side by side with yellow flowers that had just bloomed? Or, I could go for the onions, showing so white among the dark humid soil. And what about the tall bean plants, growing towards the sky? After much consideration, I chose a tiny pumpkin still with the orange petals of the huge and gorgeous flower on top. It is hard to believe that by late summer it will be at least the size of a football! And that by fall it will be eaten as a delicious pie or soup. Vegetable gardens are without doubt wonderful places. I think I won't be lying if I say that until fall, you'll be seeing many more sketches of vegetables in this blog...
