Segovia, Spain

Last Friday I went to a meeting in Segovia. I thought it would take me as long to get there as to Madrid, so I left early, to get there on time for breakfast with the other colleagues who were there since the day before. But I arrived really early, so, before going in, I took my time to watch the town, that looks really nice. It was freezing cold (6ºC), but the rising sun peeking through the cloudy sky made the ochre of the old buildings and churches glow. Swifts dashed squealing around an old church tower and the streets were starting to get busy with people hurrying to work and noisy kids running to school. Just outside the hotel, I sat for a while in the quiet Plaza de las Sirenas (Mermaids' Square). I couldn't find any mermaid, but the view was lovely enough for this quick sketch, with a watercolour wash and all (yes, I took them along!).

  1. Its good you arrived so early. It gave me a chance to see more of your lovely sketches and watercolors. I hope your meetings went well and you can see some of the town while you are there.
